Filtering Out Common Words (Noise Words / Stop Words)

If your users are experiencing errors when they run text searches, specifically, when they specify Including all words and Not including all words and then enter a text string that contains common words (for English, words like "a", "and", and "the"), consider editing the NOISE.xxx file for your language on the Windows Search computer and removing the offending words, or consider deleting the file altogether. See your Windows Search documentation for details.

Changing the Default Timeout Value for Searches

The default timeout value for searches is 300 seconds (five minutes). If you need to use a different timeout value, you need to create the following registry key on the Windows Search computer:

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor.
  2. Find the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bentley\ProjectWise\Automated File Processing
  3. Create a DWORD value called SearchTimeout and set the timeout value as needed, in seconds. (0 means infinity.)
